The Central Board of Irrigation & Power, jointly with IIT Tirupathi, had organized a National Conference on ‘Cyber Security Challenges for Power Grid & Smart Grid Networks’ on 31st March to 01 April 2023 at Hall no TC 22. IIT Tirupati Campus. It was attended by around 100 + delegates from 33 energy sector organisations, including Power Utilities, PSUs, academic institutions, Research Labs, Manufacturers, Pvt. Sector organizations, etc. Modern protection, monitoring and controls in electric power systems with advanced communication are vulnerable to cyber-attacks. However, IEC and other standards viz. IEEE / NERC are available which address Cyber security requirements. It is important to consider applying these standards to IEDs and other systems that are being integrated into substations and feeder equipment to provide secure communications. Care shall also be taken when deploying equipment / system to comply with security requirements.
Today’s world has is a complete energy dependent world, wherein electricity is of prime importance. Cyber incidents have the potential to disrupt the power system, damage highly specialized equipment, and threaten human health and safety. Considering seriousness of this Issue and identify further opportunities to strengthen cyber security in our power system, CBIP jointly with IIT Tirupati organised this Important conference. The main aim of the conference was to share the experience and to sensitize the utilities towards the steps/ measures to reduce the Cyber security attack in our power system.
The conference started on the 31st March 2023, with the inaugural session, Inaugural Session present on the dais:

Shri A.K. Dinkar delivered the welcome Address. He welcomed the dignitaries and the experts present on and off the dais. He briefed the gathering about the various activities of the CBIP. He again welcomed everyone to the Conference. Shri M.A.K.P. SINGH, Member (Hydro) & CISO MoP, Central Electricity Authority & Ex-officio Additional Secretary to GoI; Prof. K.N. Satyanarayana, Director, IIT Tirupati; Shri Reji Kumar Pillai, President ISGF and Shri N. Murugesan, Former DG, CPRI also addressed the gathering during the inaugural session. The inaugural session concluded with a Vote of thanks, proposed by Shri Sanjeev Singh, Director, CBIP. He expressed sincere gratitude to all the dignitaries on the dais for gracing the inaugural session. He conveyed special thanks to The Director IIT Tirupati and his team for extending all our support for the success of this conference.. He also conveyed his thanks to all the speakers, invitees and participants for joining this conference. With this, the Inaugural Session ended.
Technical Sessions
There were six Technical Sessions conducted over two days. A total of 15 technical presentations were made by the eminent experts on the subject: All the presentations were focused, suitably technical and to the point. Practically, all the aspects of ‘Cyber security’ and allied topics were deliberated upon during the conference. The presenters made every effort to make it simple for the participants to grasp and understand the subject. Further clarity was enabled by the Q&A opportunity in each session. The conference ended with a Vote of thanks, proposed by Shri Vishan Dutt from CBIP. He thanked all the eminent experts, Speakers and participants and one and all associated with the success and usefulness of this conference.

A workshop on the use case of Analog System Lab Kit (ASLK) Pro kit was conducted on 7th Jan 2023 by Texas Instruments (TI) and by the Electrical Department IIT Tirupati. The number of student participants, on 7th Jan 2023, during the workshop was 30. During the workshop, an experiment based on the Design of Analog filter using the ASLK Pro kit was demonstrated. Students practiced the same on an individual kit.
A talk was organized on 10th Feb 2023 on How to build an electronic system? Mr. Sudarshan Vardarajan, TI delivered the talk on 10th Feb for an hour duration. He explained the practical challenges of building an electronic system. On 11th Feb 2023, at 9:30 AM, the hardware contest was conducted. A hardware problem of acquiring a biomedical signal and displaying on a scope was given as a task.
