About the Lab:

This lab was established in 2022, primarily for research on smart grids. This lab has state of the art hardwares & softwares to test and validate algorithms developed for smart grid monitoring and control.

Real-Time Digital Simulator
The RTDS Simulator consists of one (1) NovaCor chassis, with 2 licensed cores, as well as input and output (I/O) devices for connection of the simulator to external equipment. Additional core licenses (up to a maximum of 10 cores per chassis), additional chassis, and additional I/O cards can be added to the simulator at any time.

SEL 401 Merging unit
The SEL-401 Merging Unit provides a reduction in cable and labor costs while improving the overall safety of the sub-station. The SEL-401 publishes IEC 61850-9-2 Sampled Values (SV) data streams according to the UCA 61850-9-2LE (9-2LE) guideline for use by compliant substation relays and provides phase overcurrent and breaker-failure backup protection in the absence of substation network communication.

SEL 421 Distance Protection Relay
The SEL-421-7 Protection, Automation, and Control System With Sampled Values combines high-speed distance and directional protection with complete control for a two-breaker bay. The SEL-421 SV Subscriber Relay subscribes to current and voltage information that is provided by remote merging units instead of standard PT and CT inputs to reduce cable lengths, labor costs, and improve the overall safety of the substation. The SEL-421 with SV publication capability publishes IEC 61850-9-2 Sampled Values (SV) data streams according to the UCA 61850-9-2LE (9-2LE) guideline to be used by compliant substation relays and provides full backup protection in the absence of substation network communication.
